Dear UN-GLOBE members, dear colleagues, dear allies, dear friends,
On 17 May this year, on the occasion of the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, our Secretary-General expressed the support of the Organization for the rights of LGBTIQ+ people:
It is a tragic truth that violence and discrimination continue to be a part of everyday life for millions of LGBTIQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer) people around the world. They face an onslaught of hate speech, attacks and restrictions on their rights. Meanwhile, funding cuts for critical health services and civil society organizations threaten further devastating impacts. The theme of this year’s international day — “the power of communities” — reminds us that we are strongest together. LGBTIQ+ people, and those working with them to secure their rights, have proved time and again the value of communities in providing support and driving change. Their example should inspire us all to come together and realize the vision of a world where every member of our human family can live a life of freedom, equality and dignity. Working as one, we must push to repeal discriminatory laws, combat violence and harmful practices, and end the scapegoating of marginalized communities.
The United Nations is a proud partner in these efforts. We will not rest until the rights of all are a reality, no matter who they are or whom they love.
It is time for us here in Vienna to take to the streets to show that we are many and that we are United in pride, showing our solidarity as a response to division! We need you all to show your support and solidarity in these challenging times!
Join UN-GLOBE Vienna in marching at the Vienna Pride Parade on Saturday, 14 June 2025. Our entry can be found here. UN-GLOBE will be marching with members and allies, UN personnel and their families, and anyone who wants to make a strong statement for human rights of all queer people across the world, showcasing the diversity of our communities and standing up for human rights. Filling out the form will give you access to detailed information on our meeting place and other Pride activities happening in Vienna. Because the delivery is 5-8 working days, we recommend to order and pay by Thursday 5 June to receive it before the Pride Parade.
